It was not even two weeks, and Eileen Bunting died from the injury.
Eileen was a patient at Hull Royal Infirmary and was undergoing the recovery from having a stent fixed in her bile duct.
She had been walking the road of recovery when she was hit by the patient she was sharing the room with.
Other patients revealed that the patient who had hit Eileen had become agitated with her snoring.
According to Eileen’s son, Mark Bunting, the attack was premeditated and left his mother requiring 14 stitches to her head.
The patient who attacked Eileen had tied the door handles with a blanket to prevent anyone from entering the room.
As per Mr. Bunting, the nurses found Eileen’s attacker standing over her with a cup, which she had used to attack her across the head.
Police were called at the hospital to investigate. The staff at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said they were shocked but asserted that the staff had taken all the correct procedures while reporting to the incident.
Eileen’s husband revealed that his wife’s health had been declining rapidly since the attack. They had been married for forty-seven years. Her husband also said that Eileen was attacked due to her snoring.
She took a sleeping pill and slept that night, and then she was attacked brutally. She suffered facial injuries and was talking to people and seeing things that were not there.
Eileen’s official cause of death was reported to be renal failure but her family says that she was recovering before the attack. They said that her appetite had increased and she was almost back to her normal self. However, the attack proved to be fatal for her.
