A seemingly complex formation made of dozens of pencils has gone viral after internet users were given a special task.

With the right tools and a bit of imagination, one can create almost anything. As you can see in the picture below, someone put together a complex structure using nothing but regular pencils.

After the photo appeared on the internet, people were urged to count the pencils used in the making of the shape. Soon enough, a major debate started after people couldn’t agree on the number of pencils seen in the pic.

Take another close look and see if you can figure it out! How many pencils are there?

If you’re still not sure about your answer, keep in mind that there are many, many more pencils than meets the eye at first sight.

Before you scroll down for the solution, here’s a big hint. The formation is made of four equal stacks of pencils. All stacks have the same number of pencils in them.

Here comes the answer! There are 72 pencils in the picture, whereas each of the four stacks is comprised of 18 pencils.
