It’s no secret that people love collecting things.
From baseball cards, shoes, cars and in this case rare coins.
Once you start a collection sometimes it can become something that will change your life forever.
In the case of today’s story, it is about collecting rare and valuable coins.
Most of the time, collectors prefer going for unique items that are rare to be found.
As far as coins are concerned, collectors love pennies that were printed at specific occasions, or that have some unusual characteristics.
One of the most favorite pennies for collectors is the 1943 Lincoln head copper penny.
In that specific year, US authorities ordered not to manufacture such copper coins in order to save metal for weapons manufacturing to be used in World War II.
Well, at that time, the coins made, were of stainless steel coated with zinc to make shiner.
Currently, one such rare coin in good condition can earn you an outrageous amount of $10,000 to $85,000. However, be aware as there plenty of fake ones in the market too.
After the war, the US government shifted to the trend where coins were again made from copper alloys.
The material used was the trash of bullet shell casing collected during the war.
However, the steel penny, which was manufactured during the war, can easily worth around $100,000 depending on the coin’s condition.
Owning a 1953 double-dyed penny is a dream as only 2000 copies of this were manufactured at that time.
You would be amazed to know that there is also some science behind what is printed on these rare coins.
All coins made in the States are marked to show where they were minted. Those with a P were minted in Philadelphia, D in Denver and S in San Francisco.
Out of the thousands of coins that were manufactured in 2004, the Wisconsin state minted a quarter that had an extra leaf on the husk of the corn, only a few of these were released in the public.
This penny is worth more than a thousand dollars or even more depending on the condition of the coin.
So check your piggy bank, your purse, your wallet or even in-between your couch cushions to see if you are now rich!
