A lot of people are planning to cancel or even boycott Netflix subscription because of a controversial show being offered by the streaming service.
The show revolves around a person who claims to be the son of God.
You might remember the fuss created by The Passion of the Christ some years back. The current situation is analogous to that.
The Passion of the Christ, an epic production by Mel Gibson, was focused on the death of Jesus. The movie caused large scale protests, anger and editorializing among Christians all around the world.
The latest series by Netflix, however, seems to hurt the religious sentiments of people from a whole range of different faiths.
So, what exactly is the cause of all this outrage?
The story of the series is set in the present age, featuring a CIA agent, played by Michelle Monaghan, who’s working on the case of a mysterious man known as Al Massih ad-Dajjal.
The actual conflict on the series is on just one point and that is Dajjal, played by Mehdi Dehbi, claiming to be the true son of God.
The CIA operative, played by Monaghan and known as Eve Geller, is tasked to find out if there’s any truth to his claims. It apparently seems like Dajjal is just a con artist trying to get cheap publicity.
The name, given to the mysterious man, ‘Al Massih al-Dajjal’ means the false Jesus or Antichrist in Arabic.
People are not happy with the series, mainly due to two reasons. First, it looks like something too real a prediction of the future for some people. Second, it is deemed highly disrespectful by many.
Some people are already at their limit with the content of this bold series.
Someone wrote on Twitter: “Who is with me in vowing to cancel our subscriptions and never watch Netflix again if they allow this Messiah show to drop?”
Another person wrote: “Guys. I’m literally shaking. Someone posted that Netflix is coming out with a show called Messiah and it’s about what will happen in the world when Dajjal appears.
“I’m shaken to my core – what?”
Yet another said: “I know people will be outraged by this Messiah show on Netflix if he is indeed supposed to represent the 2nd coming of Jesus or the Dajjal, but the trailer kinda gave me chills.
“For people of the Abrahamic faiths, in our beliefs this will be a reality one day & it’s frightening.”
Some people might not want to watch the series but it will be on air anyways. The show is planned to be available for streaming from January 1st, 2020.
