The world we live in today is not carried by men alone but by all the genders equally.
Be it a male, a female, a transgender or anyone. We all share the weight of the world equally.
The women are not restricted inside the four walls of their homes anymore, males are not the only one who is going out to make money or taking important decision of the household, transgender is not treated as the outsiders anymore.
If the change has come in the society then why there is no change in the terms that we use in the workplace?
The legislator of California has agreed on the terms and are working on the changes that are due. The bill that was anonymously passed concentrates on making the workplace more inclusive.
The terms that indicate the gender of a person have been changed with gender-neutral words. Like Manhole has been changed for maintenance hole and the pregnant woman has been changed for a pregnant employee.
Terms like “he” or “she” has been changed with terms “they” and “them” and there are several other terms.
Brother or sister on the form or anywhere else has changed to be siblings. A memo that was published along with the statement said that this is going to inculcate a positive and inclusive environment in the workplace.
The move was first initiated by Rigel Robinson, who wanted to change the code to be more inclusive for all the employees working in an organization or for all the students studying in an institution.
He said that the idea first occurs to him when he was a student in his college and since then he has been willing to bring the same in practice. Although it took a lot of time to finally happen but it at least happened.
