Pepsi has introduced a new coffee-flavored drink following just months after Coca Cola launched its new coffee blend.
As the company announced, their new cola with a coffee drink will come in two flavors, original and vanilla, and will be available on the shelves by April 2020.
The company also promises that Pepsi Café will be made with real coffee whereas each 12 oz. slim can will contain twice as much caffeine as regular Pepsi.
As PepsiCo also claimed, the blend isn’t 50% cola and 50% coffee, as the experts worked tirelessly to find the perfect balance between the two.
“We know that the consumers today are looking for products that meet the needs of energy, indulgence, and refreshment during that afternoon pick-me-up occasion,” the company announced in a press release.
“At Pepsi, we’ve known the potential of blending cola and coffee for years and after striking the perfect balance, we cannot wait to introduce Pepsi Café to the US next year.
“We are confident that cola fans, iced coffee drinkers and anyone in need of an extra caffeine boost will love the unexpected flavor medley of roasted coffee infused into the refreshing, crisp flavor of Pepsi.”
Previously, in 1996, Pepsi launched a test run for Pepsi Kona, a coffee and cola blend that they advertised as a breakfast beverage.
However, things didn’t go as planned and the drink never made it past Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, because the market wasn’t ready for the controversial mash-up at the time according to the company.
Years later, the company also launched Pepsi Cappuccino in several parts of Europe including Romania and Russia. However, the drink was on the shelves for less than a year due to what is believed to be a lack of interest.
As PepsiCo now believe, however, the market is fully ready for the blend whereas the demand for flavored iced coffee is ever-growing.
