Aah! The sweet game of baseball. America’s favorite pastime. And it should be. The thrill that comes along with a base hit, the tactics underlying the shifts on the field and that ever glorious sound the bat makes when it hits the ball and obviously not forgetting the joy of watching your favorite players get a home run.
And don’t forget the endless supply of drinks, hot dogs and popcorn. If this isn’t a miniature version of paradise, then I don’t know what is.
This year when the Chicago Cubs managed to go to the playoffs, die-hard fans from all walks of life, both the old and the young as well, flooded the famous Wrigley Field in the Northern side of Chicago, Illinois. Last year was a good year for the Cubs after winning the World Series. So, now here its fans were all riled up ready to offer them all their love and support.
One Cubs fan by the name Lauren Hinkston Hintzsche tagged along with her husband and found their way to the bleachers and took their seats. This was game one of the play offs hosted by NLCS. As is tradition, she started small talk with fellow Cubs fans around her. She made conversation with these two guys seated next to her and her hubby. She later came to learn that they were brothers and they were here to cheer on the cubs as they played against the Dodgers.
As they were all settling in their seats, this elderly couple who were also Cubs fans slowly came up the stairs and they tried to navigate the bleacher section.
But what transpired next left Hinkston in awe. When they arrived home, Lauren took to her Facebook and posted what she had witnessed that day.
She said that the older couple sat next to her and her husband, John. They had season tickets but after holding a conversation with them John and Lauren discovered that that was where their Playoff tickets were.
Lauren added that even on a good day, making your way across the bleachers is a sticky situation.
She then pointed out that the guys seated to their right were brothers. She went on and said that while having their chit chat, they found out that one of them hailed from Chicago while the other one lived in San Diego and had flown in to come and spend time with his brother.
Hinkston wrote that when the two brothers realized that the older man was having a hard time making his way up the stairs, they immediately stood up and leaped in to offer him a hand.
She added that as the game was in progress, they would assist the old gentleman to stand when the crowd stood up in cheer.
One of the brothers would sometimes remain seated so that this old guy could be able to see the game.
She also noted that the elderly couple would hands and the old gentleman would pat her knee and the lady would help him to rise up as well during exciting moments.
On the third inning, the older woman leaned over and whispered to Lauren that her husband was going through chemo and that they had done everything they could and that that was the last step. Lauren said that she was overwhelmed with emotion and for a moment there she teared up.
She also noted the old guy at some point lean over to his lady and say how much he loved it.
Lauren was at this moment seeing the world through teary eyes. Watching these two men and how they never minded helping this elderly couple was a total blessing to this couple.
When the game ended, these two guys saw to it that this gentleman had safely made his way up the stairs without any hitches. Lauren went on to write on how she gave these two guys a huge hug and she thanked them for their willingness to help and their generosity.
She said that with all the stuff going on in the world, she felt driven to tell this story.
Once again Wrigley Field had lived up to its hype of being the hub of friendly confines. She then concluded by saying that these men had no need of getting themselves involved with this elderly couple, but they did it any way out of the goodness of their hearts.
After sharing this post online, it has been liked by more than 35000 people and has been shared a whopping 5000 times and counting. It is evident that it reverberated with people the world over.
In conclusion, a seemingly random act of kindness can go a long way and can touch even the hardest of hearts. It’s always a feat to see such things still happen.
