With coronavirus fears spreading faster than the virus itself, a lot of information and misinformation is being put out on the Internet.

But leave it to adversity to bring out the ingenuity of some people such as portable personal see-through tents that are being touted as one solution to protect oneself from the coronavirus.

These tents are called Under The Weather Pods and were actually invented back in 2010 by Cincinnati-based Rick Pescovitz. These “stadium pods” were originally meant for people to wear in stadiums so that they don’t need to get wet while watching games during rainy weather. Now, they supposedly offer a way to avoid catching the virus.

One particular design called StadiumPod can be fit over the torso and can be worn while sitting down. With the increasing concern about plane travel, it certainly provides an attractive option for people who want to avoid catching the virus.

Rick has even flown on a plane while using the pod, said his brother David.

David wrote: “My brother thought to see how his StadiumPod, meant for seated spectators at sports games, would work on an airplane.

“He tells me the flight attendant happily took his photo and that the man who sat next to him didn’t even bat an eye. Stay safe out there!”

Reactions have understandably been mixed with a few wondering if it would even work.

One man said: “Not for use in exit rows.”

But others are interested and said that even without the coronavirus threat, it would be useful for “maintaining personal space.”

The coronavirus outbreak was picked up on the news on December 31 last year and to date has killed 427 people.

Over 20,000 people have been infected with cases in 24 countries, including the US, the UK, and Australia.

Only time will tell if the threat will eventually be put under control or if Rick’s company will experience a windfall if not.
