A pharmacist who left his country to assist and treat ISIS jihadists for years is pleading with the UK to let him and his family return home.
40-year-old Mohammed Anwar Miah, who is a British national, allegedly joined ISIS for “humanitarian purposes” back in 2014 when he left Birmingham to sneak into the terrorist-governed territory in Syria.
The pharmacist was recently arrested by Kurdish forces after working as a self-taught surgeon for over four years in Mayadin.
In an interview, Miah, who has long been a suspected jihadi, explained that he wants to go back home and bring his wife and daughter, who were picked up by Syrian Democratic Forces, with him.
“I want to go home. I’m proud to be British. Britain has got good human rights and that is a good thing,” the 40-year-old said.
“In an ideal situation I would like to take my wife and my children back to Britain with me and just live a normal life. If she can live there and she’s not allowed health care OK so be it. I’ve never claimed any benefits in my life. I’ve always worked for a living and paid taxes.”
As the pharmacist added, he believes that it is Britain’s responsibility to bring him home safely because he is of British nationality.
“I’m not a danger to the public,” Miah said.
“But if they feel that I am a danger I am more than happy to enter into any rehabilitation program. If they want to punish me, they can punish me. If they want to monitor me I have no problem. I am in remorse for coming to Syria and if I could go back in time I wouldn’t come to Syria.”
As the suspected jihadi added, the hospital he was staying in was constantly getting bombed.
“You would get people coming in who were probably fighters but they would come in as a normal civilian who needed medical care and you would just treat them,” Miah said.
Additionally, Miah claimed that he never swore allegiance to the terrorist group and that he went to Syria purely as a humanitarian.
