You can frequently see one from afar, as no one ever inspected these beautiful undersea creatures closely.
However, one photographer was lucky enough to spot one and she was pretty close.
This huge spotted eagle ray was found digging in the sands in search of mollusks, which is known to be a large part of their diet.
The eagle rays are known to consume crustaceans, small fish, clams, and conchs.
These sea creatures are often found hiding deep within the ocean beds, and the eagle rays take their chance to look for them.
However, these rays are known to be pretty unique as they take the help of a special technique that enables them to locate their prey.
The eagle rays have special organs on their flat wings that allow them to immediately detect the electrical impulses of the tiny creatures.
The eagle rays dip up the sand with the help of their snout and also inhale the sand and expel them through their gills.
Just like all stingrays, the spotted eagle ray also has the poisonous spines located in their tales, which they use on others for defense.
Big sea creatures, like sharks, are well-aware of a fully-grown spotted eagle ray.
They often fall prey to hammerheads sharks, silver reef sharks, and tiger sharks.
However, coming back to the scuba driver, the person took a very respectful yet slow approach towards the ray.
She was greeted by an eagle ray who was found eating right in front of her camera’s lens.
This is a very rare sight to capture and the scuba driver felt that she is pretty lucky to capture such moments of a spotted eagle ray, who was busy looking for a snack.
