Recently a couple was able to capture the images of the world’s rarest leopard.
The pink leopard was spotted in South Africa’s Thaba Tholo Wilderness Reserve. The leopard was photographed by a motion-triggered camera that was attached to a tree.
Forty-five-year-old Alan Watson and his wife Lynsey, 41, had seen the strawberry leopard but were not able to shoot its image. They caught the animal feasting on a dead giraffe near their Black Leopard Mountain Lodge in a set of photos that photographed the creature for the first time.
The couple from Belfast set up a camera next to a dead giraffe killed by an intense thunderstorm, which captured the strange creature.
Alan thought that the few hundred photos that were shot would be of grass moving but was shocked when a researcher spotted the golden leopard while reviewing the photos.
Alan noted how amazing it is to see the leopard turn around and snarl at the camera The animal was nicknamed Goldie.
The couple hopes that the creature with the rarest color will bring new people to their lodge. They said that a lot of people who visit the area with the hope of seeing a leopard go away disappointed.
But these leopards are so well camouflaged that one would not be able to identify them if they are passing through long grass.
The couple further added that the leopards would not be visible to humans if they do not want to be seen. They also exclaimed that every time one hears about a species getting extinct, someone discovers something new, which is incredible.
The couple’s ranch is perfectly located for wildlife due to the presence of mountainous terrains, which put off animal farmers and poachers. The surrounding citrus groves ensure safe corridors for the animals.
The couple has spotted, and captured two leopards so far but hopes there are more leopards present in the reserve.
