Piers Morgan attacks Zayn Malik and branded him a “snarly brat” after his argument with Gigi Hadid and her mother.
Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan, 56, is an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and television personality.
Zain Javadd Malik, 28, known as Zayn, is a British singer. He was a member of One Direction, which went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time and left the group in March 2015.
Malik appeared in court on Wednesday, October 27, where he “agreed to not contest” the four criminal charges stemming from an incident on September 29.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter has described Zayn Malik as a “snarly brat” after his no-contest plea to charges that he harassed Gigi and her mother.
Taking to Twitter, Piers has hit out at the singer, in view of his 7 million followers. The outspoken journalist retweeted an article that confirmed that Malik has been charged with harassment.
“Horrible,” he wrote. “Met this little charmer @zaynmalik once and he was a surly snarly brat. By contrast, when I dined with @YolandaHadid, she was delightful, as was her daughter @bellahadid.”
Following an argument with Yolanda Hadid, 57, a Dutch-American television personality, and Hadid’s mother, Malik allegedly shouted expletives at both of them.
It has also been reported that he pushed Yolanda into a piece of furniture, causing “mental anguish and physical pain”. He’s denied hitting her but filed no contest pleas to four counts of “harassment – course of conduct with no legitimate purpose”
Zayn shares one-year-old daughter Khai with model Gigi Hadid. The harassment charges relate to an incident on September 29, at the couple’s home near New Hope, Pennsylvania. Yolanda went to the couple’s property while Gigi was modeling in Paris when a row ensued.
According to sources close to the Hadid family, the pair have separated, but neither has commented on these reports. A family friend told People they’re “not together right now”, but that they are “both good parents”.
Gigi’s representatives released a statement saying “Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.” Yolanda has yet to comment on the incident.
Meanwhile, Malik posted a statement on social media on Thursday that confirmed there was an incident.
“As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private place for my daughter to grow up in,” the singer wrote in a statement. “A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart.”
“In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago,” he wrote.
“Despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner which she deserves, this has been “leaked” to the press,” he added.
Another statement issued says that Malik “adamantly denies striking Yolanda Hadid” and he also acknowledges that “harsh words” had been shared with the unnamed family member.
A no-contest plea means Malik won’t fight the charge in court and can be sentenced if convicted, but it can’t be used for any other case as it’s not technically an admission of guilt.
Malik began dating American model Gigi in late 2015, although they have broken up and reconciled multiple times. Gigi starred in his music video for the song “Pillowtalk”. The two appeared together on the August 2017 cover of Vogue.
Malik and Gigi welcomed their first child, a daughter, in September 2020. The family spent a majority of their time in their home on a farm in rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where Hadid’s mother and sister also own land. Malik also owns an apartment in SoHo, Manhattan.
