A puppy that can’t walk and a pigeon that can’t fly managed to form a strong bond at an animal rescue center in the US.
A two-month-old Chihuahua named Lundy has damage to his spinal cord when he was taken in by the Mia Foundation. Herman the pigeon, a long-standing resident, gave him a warm welcome.
The founder of the animal center, Sue Rogers, said the two are now inseparable. The two adorable animals also love to cuddle up together on their comfy blanket.
“I set Herman on a dog bed and started caring for Lundy, and I decided to carefully put Lundy in the same dog bed next to him,” Sue shared.
“They started interacting immediately in a very cute way.”
A North Carolina breeder brought Lundy into the rescue center after noticing the Chihuahua was struggling to walk.
Sue now wonders whether Herman is a female pigeon due to the way she takes good care of the pup.
The founder’s goal is to fix Lundy’s mobility problem with a wheelchair and help him find a forever home. “Lundy weighs only one pound now, so we will have to wait for the chair,” Sue said.
Lundy’s condition is a typical case for Sue, who dedicates her life to helping animals born with defects.
“Our main goal is to take in animals born with birth defects,” she said. “But people also bring us injured birds and squirrels sometimes.”
One internet user commented: “This is seriously one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. And I’m normally not a fan of chihuahuas at all…”
Another wrote: “I would think if they formed an inseparable bond, only to be separated it would create issues, why not keep them together?”
A third added: “I’m not generally a fan of such things however this is genuinely heartwarming…”
