The pilot who was arrested and humiliated simply for being naked in his own hotel room has received a compensation of $300,000 after the incident.
Andrew Collins, who is a renowned United Airlines pilot and a father to three kids, was arrested at Westin Hotel at Denver International Airport after another traveler saw him naked through the room’s window and called the police.
According to the officers who arrived at the scene, Mr. Collins was “acting inappropriately,” prompting the police to arrest him.
After the incident went viral, the police have apologized whereas the City of Denver was ordered to pay the pilot of 26 years $300,000.
“The DIA Westin needs to make changes to warn hotel guests that the interiors of its hotel rooms do not afford privacy but are in fact visible to unseen people far away in the Denver International Airport terminal,” Collins said.
“The DIA Westin should take responsibility for its own behavior… and take appropriate steps to make sure that what happened never happens to another customer.”
As the pilot added, he believed the windows to be tinted and he didn’t have any idea that anyone could possibly see him as his room was located on the 10th floor.
He also expressed that his whole family, including his kids, were dragged into the ridiculous incident and that their private lives were greatly affected by it.
“A respected family man and outstanding veteran aviator, Captain Collins was the victim of an unjustified and warrantless entry into his hotel room followed by an arrest and days of miserable incarceration,” Craig Silverman, Collins’ attorney, said.
“The criminal case against Captain Collins was properly dismissed, but not before Captain Collins was suspended for half a year from his job as a direct result of the wrongful charges against him.”
