A pilot is facing jail time after sneaking his childhood friend into the cockpit and letting her take control of a loaded plane mid-flight.
The incident occurred in Siberia, Russia, when 52-year-old captain Kirill S. allowed his 33-year-old friend, Anna, to take control of the plane with dozens of passengers on it.
After the pilot’s reckless actions were exposed, he got charged with violating passengers’ safety and slapped with a $4,500 fine. He’s also facing up to two years in prison.
Sharing the footage of her flying the plane and taking instructions from Kirill, Anna wrote: “This was unbelievably cool.”
Speaking of the incident that enraged the public, Yekaterina Plyaskina of East Siberian Transport Investigative Department said:
“We are carrying out a set of investigative activities aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime.”
The incident follows shortly after a Chinese pilot has come under fire for allowing his girlfriend not only to sneak into the cockpit mid-flight but for letting her sit in the pilot’s seat as he took a picture of her.
The incident occurred in China on a commercial flight from Guilin to Yangzhou. During the flight, the unnamed pilot somehow managed to sneak his girlfriend inside the cockpit and allowed her to take control of the aircraft with hundreds of people on it.
After taking photos of his girlfriend, the woman proudly shared them on social media from where they spread to different platforms with angry members of the public demanding the pilot gets banned from flying.
“Thanks to the captain. So happy,” the woman, who is allegedly a flight attendant in training, captioned her photos.
Following the incident, Air Guilin, the Chinese carrier that the pilot was flying for, slammed the reckless actions and called out the pilot for breaching Civil Aviation Administration regulations.
As the airline stated, the pilot has been banned from flying for life, whereas other staff involved in the incident got “suspended indefinitely.”
