With a lot of areas on lockdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, people have no choice but to get more acquainted with the four corners of their home no matter how small it may be.
With a lot of outside movement restricted, staring at your wall can get old pretty quick.
Sure, you can binge-watch Netflix and have the TV running all day but there’s only so much that you can watch before your mind eventually clamors for a break. The normal cure to that would be to take a walk out in the park because being surrounded by nature has been proven to have a calming effect.
Unfortunately, unless you live in a mansion in the middle of several acres of land, taking a stroll whenever you want is not an option given the risks.
But even keeping a houseplant at home is already beneficial. A NASA study more than a decade ago showed 87% of air toxins can be cleaned up by house plants in just 24 hours. And plants can also help reduce stress levels and lighten one’s mood.
If you’re worried that you don’t have a green thumb, don’t worry because Home Depot has you. Specifically, they’re selling pineapple plants from Pure Beauty Farms from Miami.
This low-maintenance tropical plant is from the bromeliad family that is native to the tropics but also thrives indoors. It only needs 6 hours of sunlight each day and only requires watering once a week. But if the soil it’s planted on does not hold water well, you’ll need to water the pineapple twice in a week.
During the cold months, you can keep the plant inside, only moving it outdoors once it starts to get warm. When it’s outside, it may need more frequent watering, especially during those times that it’s flowering or bearing fruit.
Home Depot lists the plant at $29.98 and comes in a 5-inch designer pot.
Like all pineapples, this one has spiny green leaves and on the large center stem is where the small fruit sprouts. But in case you were thinking of this as a renewable snack dispenser, don’t.
The pineapple has spiny green leaves and the actual small fruit sprouts on the large center stem. However, the product description says it’s not to be snacked on—its purpose is solely decorative.
If you’re raring to get one, there’s a bit of a downer because the product easily goes out of stock at Home Depot. But you can always check out their website to see if any new stock has arrived.
If anything, this just goes to show that there are a lot of satisfied customers.
