A pink puppy named Piglet has been inspiring people to allow themselves to be different after he was born blind and deaf.
The pup was initially rescued from an overcrowded home from where he was taken in by a Connecticut veterinarian, Melissa Shapiro, who offered to foster Piglet until he could find a forever home.
Two months later, however, it was already clear that the sweet pup was meant to stay in the loving home of Melissa. Not only is the pup now thriving but he is also inspiring people and rescuing animals from around the world.
“Piglet is a double dapple doxie chihuahua mix. He was born in a hoarding situation. When two dapple color patterned dogs breed there is a 25% chance each puppy will receive two dapple genes. This is called ‘double dapple’ or double merle which is linked to congenital ear and eye defects. Piglet is deaf and blind,” the pup’s official Instagram page, which he has over 140k followers, reads.

Speaking of her “little prince” to PEOPLE, Melissa admitted taking care of Piglet is “a full-time job.” However, she has no regrets and said that she just “couldn’t give him away” after getting to know him.
“People are afraid to adopt these animals, they think that it’s going to be too much work. But people see Piglet’s page and I get so many notes from people that because of him, they just adopted,” she said.
“It’s rewarding to know that people are taking the lead and being inspired by Piggy. It makes a lot of people really happy to know him.”
