Burnley resident, 52-year-old James Anderson says he has been helping a number of elderly, disabled and poor customers since he shut down his own firm and started a non-profit company named Depher.

His little acts of kindness got him enormous social media fame after a $0 bill for plumbing repair was sent to a 91-year-old Leukemia patient.

Along with the receipt for boiler repair, there was a note, saying: “No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.”

Anderson, who originally belongs to Liverpool, worked quite hard to establish the non-profit enterprise.

The company was a success thanks to crowdfunding and generous donations from the public. Now, the company is established enough to help people throughout Lancashire.

Anderson told that he decided to start such a set up after he saw another worker of his field mistreating a poor elderly man.

It’s been around two years that Anderson is providing free services to those in need at affordable prices. His services are available all winter.

According to Anderson, turning into a non-profit has made him fall into debts amounting to $10,000. However, he’s still positive about the whole thing and says the conditions are under his control.

“A lot of people close to me ask: why are you getting yourself in to debt?” said Anderson.

“Why are you doing this? To me, debt is debt. I would rather owe some money to somebody and another person be alive and happy and safe.

“It’s an ethos that’s in my heart and it will always stay there.”

Having served people in Lancashire locality for two years, Anderson has now got plans to expand his business countrywide.

He said: “I’ve spoken to quite a few engineers around the country and they’re all for it.

“It’s just getting the funding. I don’t want any person who is elderly and disabled in this country, in this day and age, to die or suffer because of a cold home or a lack of funding to repair the boiler.

“It shouldn’t be happening – that number should be down to zero. Simple as that.”
