The incident, which occurred in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, involved four other men who are now in police custody.

Cops caught the four men outside the park and expressed how an angry elephant had trampled one of their friends to death. During that time, they were trying to hunt a rhino.

Rangers from the park searched the area to locate the man after hearing about the elephant attack. They took a small plane to look for him but their attempts failed.

The next day, the search continued and rangers assured the poacher’s family that they would do their best to find his body.

It was several days later when his body was finally found but it had already been eaten by lions. They managed to recover his dismembered head and some of his clothes.

“Entering the Kruger illegally and on foot is not wise as it holds very many dangers and this incident is clear evidence of that,” said Glenn Phillips, the Kruger National Park managing executive.

“It was very sad to see the daughters of the deceased man mourning the loss of their father, and worse still, only being able to recover very little of his remains.”

Phillips also offered thanks to the search party for their incredible efforts to recover the poacher and extended his condolences to the grieving family.

This is not the first time in happened in South Africa. Last year, three poachers were also mauled by lions at the Sibuya Game Reserve and the park’s owner said only a number of body parts, an ax, rifles, and a single shoe were recovered.
