Audio recordings of police radio traffic have confirmed that rapper Travis Scott kept on performing while officers attempted to stop his show.
The chaos at the Astroworld Festival left nine people dead and several more injured after a stampede broke out in the overcrowded area and resulted in people getting trampled.
Following the event, Travis Scott has been sued and accused of negligence after failing to stop the show for more than half an hour after people first started suffering injuries.
Now, the Houston Chronicle released a series of audio recordings which prove that law enforcement attempted to bring the show to a stop shortly after the rapper began performing.
“Looks like folks are coming out of the crowd complaining of difficulty breathing, crushing-type injuries. Seems like the crowd is compressing on itself,” one officer radioed at 9.21 pm.
At 9.30 pm, an officer shared an update saying: “I’m at the medical tent. There’s a lot of people trampled and they’re passed out at the front stage.”
In the meanwhile, another officer could be heard warning of a potential “officer rescue situation” should officers try to get through the “super thick, super dense” crowd.
As the show went on, the situation continued to worsen with one officer saying: “we’re getting multiple reports of people getting injured. We have another report of cardiac situation with CPR by the stage.”
Though some officers wanted to stop the concert, the show went on for more than thirty minutes after Travis Scott walked onto the stage.
“They have to stop the show because there’s people trampled… they’re not breathing,” one officer said over the police radio.
