Police Forced To Break In Cars Because People Keep Locking Dogs Inside Amid Heatwave

The authorities have once again been forced to issue a warning and urge people to stop leaving their pets inside their cars amid hot weather.

The warning follows after several new cases of people locking dogs in their heated-up vehicles emerged in Plymouth, England.

Due to the scorching heat and unbearable conditions of pets locked in hot vehicles, the police have recently been forced to smash the windows of several cars to rescue the animals.

In one of the cases, the owner left their dog inside an oven-like car for at least three hours in the middle of the day while they went shopping.

While the dog was thrilled to be freed from the high-temperature environment, the owner wasn’t pleased when they returned to find their window smashed.

In another incident, the officers stormed a shopping center and warned the owner to step forward after they discovered a dog panting inside a locked, overheated vehicle.

“In the space of less than 10 minutes the dog was starting to pant/overheat. Just don’t do it,” Sgt. Micklethwaite tweeted after the incident.

Despite the law currently not prohibiting leaving pets unattended in vehicles, one can be charged with animal cruelty for doing so when the heat is high enough to endanger them.

“Another dog left in the sun, another window smashed! This little guy was alone for over 3 hours. If you love your furry friends, please THINK. He was very happy to be set free! #DogsDieInHotCars” Charles Cross Policing Team wrote after the recent incident.

Following the new set of warnings from the authorities’ side, concerned members of the public spoke out and slammed irresponsible pet owners.

“This breaks my heart, I get so angry why do people do this?!!! They don’t deserve dogs!” one person wrote.

“Well done who made the call, well-done officers, STUPID human who left that lovely dog in this vehicle,” another one said.

One person suggested: “It’s bad enough when people take their dogs out when it’s this hot, but leaving them in the car?! They should be banned from keeping animals full stop.”
