Social distancing guidelines due to the coronavirus outbreak has forced a lot of people to reconsider what it means to socialize.

Whereas one may be used to going out with family and friends to celebrate something, nowadays people have to make do with virtual get-togethers.

However, one household in Newham, London, just couldn’t resist inviting people for a celebrant’s 18th birthday and promptly got shut down by the police for their trouble.

Concerned neighbors called the police about a party being held on the evening of April 4 that had 25 guests, clearly a violation of the lockdown rules.

One person quickly responded to the tweet, writing: “I feel for the 18-year-old unable to celebrate, but really?! Which kind of stupid parents would allow that?”

Another added: “FFS, we’re gonna be in lockdown until Christmas if be****ds keep ignoring it. Well done to the police, you’re doing a great job.”

A third wrote: “My boy is going to be 18. And another turning 11. They know their birthdays will have a bigger celebration when we are allowed and there is no chance of passing on a deadly virus.”

But the family wasn’t alone in ignoring lockdown rules because a “minority” of people were seen sunbathing and congregating in large groups at Brockwell Park, south of Brixton, prompting the Lambeth Council to close it down. It turns out more than 3,000 people showed up at the park on April 4.

The council said in a statement: “Despite clear advice, over 3,000 people spent today in Brockwell Park, many of them sunbathing or in large groups. This is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the actions of a minority now mean that, following police advice, Brockwell Park will be closed tomorrow.”

The council eventually reopened the park but added: “We are sorry we’ve had to take this decision. This wouldn’t need to happen if people followed the clear instructions from the Govt.

“We are doing this for the wider safety of the public. A minority of people have not followed the guidance – regrettably, we have to act.”
