A police dog was caught in the act of stealing Christmas toys after the officers initiated the hunt for the culprit following several missing toys.
The hilarious incident occurred at Massachusetts’ Franklin Police Department where police officers have taken notice of several toys that have gone missing despite being intended to be donated to the Santa Foundation.
Soon enough, much to their amusement, the officers found out that the toy thief was, in fact, their adorable Golden Retriever named Ben who works as a therapy dog.
After catching the pooch in action, the officers filmed a short video in which Ben is seen running around with a baby basket and a plastic toy inside.
As the officers followed Ben, they came across his hideout under one of the desks where he kept the other stolen toys.
“We learned an extremely valuable lesson today. When you have a classroom full of toys ready to be shipped off to the Santa Foundation, you should… 1. Close the door to the classroom. Or 2. Keep the toys elevated,” the police department wrote on social media.
“If not, a golden retriever will slowly hoard them throughout the day and bring them back to his lair. Thanks to Officer Cusson for capturing this larceny on camera.”
Fortunately for Ben, he will get to keep all of the toys he had stolen to himself since they are already heavily drizzled with his drool.
“The facility is locked down so we knew it was pretty simple to figure out it was Ben. When Ben saw the toys, he thought they all belonged to him,” Deputy Chief James Mill said in an interview with Boston 25 News.
“It was an easy solution. Ben here is now banned from this room. I mean, he’s gotten his slobber all over them at this point so the police department has replaced them.
“He has the run of the station and it’s amazing. It’s amazing. He’s like that guy who shows up to the party that everyone loves and seriously, if Ben walks in, it’s like a ray of sunshine.”
