The police have begun showing support for the LGBT+ community by painting squad cars in Pride colors.
As Deputy Chief Constable Julie Cooke of Cheshire Constabulary revealed, the British police have begun painting Pride rainbows onto the sides of their vehicles in order to show support for all under-represented groups and take a swipe at hate crimes.
While critics argued that the police should be focusing on gun and knife violence, the deputy chief constable insists that the rainbow-themed police cars will “give confidence to our LGBT+ community.”
“Cars are there in the communities on normal policing patrol just to show the community that we want you to come forward,” she said.
“It is there to try and give confidence to our LGBT+ community, but also to other under-represented groups.”
As of this writing, it is unclear to us how many vehicles will be painted like the one seen above. It is also not clear whether this is just a temporary move or a permanent one.
Blasting the police force for the “political” move, founder of Fair Cop and former cop Harry Miller said:
“We don’t see the Met with special cars for knife crime, even though the number of stabbings in London is appalling.
“The problem is that the second that you see a rainbow car, you know that it is a police force that has made its mind up about some very contentious issues.
“You no longer see a police car or a police officer who is there to support everyone, from all political persuasions, without fear or favor. They have literally tied their colors to the mast and painted their cars with their political leanings.”
