Police were called to reports of a loose massive lion roaming the streets in Spain but when they finally located the predator, it turned out to be a friendly dog!
Policia Local Molina de Segura shared the hilarious misunderstanding on Twitter and the post quickly went viral.
“Several notices were received this morning alerting that they had seen a lion loose in the garden area, others a strange bug, but finally we have passed the microchip reader and it has turned out to be a … dog ?. Identifying its owner.”
The officers confirmed that the adorable pooch was in good health and they managed to reunite it with its worried owner.
But it is still not clear why the dog was given a frightening haircut.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, a spokesman said: “We’re investigating and waiting for some results.
“We don’t know the motive for shaving it that way. For now, there’s no justifiable motive. We have to confirm the vaccines and documents are correct, but fortunately, the dog is fine.”
One internet user commented: “Leaving him without the protective layer of his hair is very irresponsible, a good fine would not be bad. Well, I don’t know if you have animal laws in Murcia, having whoever you have ruling there, I doubt it.”
Another wrote: “He is, it seems, of the Leonberger breed, but some fool has cut his hair like this to make … fool and annoy the poor animal.”
A third added: “The shaving they have done is outrageous. Dogs with that type of fur cannot be shaved. It is very possible that it will no longer grow uniform and bald. It is not one iota of grace.”
