According to the Boston Police Department, police officers were faced with a daunting task of confronting an ‘intimidating’ peacock that escaped from the zoo.
The incident occurred in Roxbury, Boston, where a pedestrian allegedly approached the officers and informed them that a runaway animal was spotted wandering around.
While the escapee, fortunately, wasn’t a big cat, the officers were faced with a unique situation as they came across “an extremely large, slightly intimidating, and quite beautiful, male peacock” as per the Boston PD.
In an attempt to get the gorgeous bird, named Snowbank, back to the Franklin Park Zoo, a police officer played a recording of a peacock mating call on his phone to lure the animal behind a fence where it waited for the animal control to arrive.
“At about 6:00 AM on Monday, May 11, 2020, while on patrol in the area of the Franklin Park Zoo, District B-2 (Roxbury) officers were approached by a concerned citizen that an animal had escaped from the zoo,” the Boston Police Department wrote in a Facebook statement.
“Additional officers arrived at the scene and were met by an extremely large, slightly intimidating, and quite beautiful, male peacock.
“An officer on scene relied on his quick wit to track down a peacock mating call on his cell phone, successfully luring the bird into a fenced-in yard where he waited patiently for the arrival of Boston Animal Control.”
After the story went viral, a zoo spokesperson confirmed that the peacock “is now back at the zoo and doing well” and thanked everyone involved for their help.
