Police officers are desperately searching for a 1-year-old girl who went missing after her mother was discovered dead at their home in Connecticut.
A sliver alert has been issued for one-year-old Venessa Morales and it could be upgraded to an Amber alert, according to Daily Mail.
The young girl was last seen by family members on Friday but it was on Monday evening when the dead mother’s body was found.
Police have no suspects yet and are treating the case as a ‘two-part investigation.’
Ansonia Police Chief Andrew Cota said during a press conference: “This is a two-part investigation. First is a homicide investigation, the second is a missing child investigation. We have enlarged all of our resources to investigate this case. Our main focus at the moment is finding Venessa Morales and making sure she is safe.”
Efforts to search the missing child are going on while the investigation into the homicide is also being carried out.
The urgency to find Venessa has increased as officers have believed that the child might be ‘endangered.’
Her father didn’t live with them but stayed at his parent’s New Haven home. He would sometimes visit them in Myrtle avenue and stay overnight, according to reports. He is also reported to be cooperating in the cases’ investigations.
Officers are interrogating both sides of the family to determine what might’ve happened that night.
According to reports, police received a request for a welfare check at Venessa and her mother’s home as she failed to show up at work. When an office knocked on the door, there was no one. Another request for a welfare check was made and this time, officers forcefully entered the house.
“When I heard this little girl was missing I told him to use all the resources he needs — state police, the feds — everything. I want this baby found. That is paramount. That has to be the focus,” said Mayor David Cassetti.
