The police have arrested the suspect charged with the murder of actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd using a drone.
The arrest took place in Fulton County, Georgia, where Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide, SWAT, and Fugitive Units worked together to apprehend 30-year-old Antonio Demetrice Rhynes on suspicion of committing a murder.
After breaking down the door of the suspect’s home, the police sent in a drone that surveyed the apartment and located Rhynes.
After the suspect was forced out of his home, he was arrested by the officers and booked into the Fulton County jail on a felony murder charge.
In the video shared by the Atlanta Police Department, the drone is seen entering the Camp Creek Parkway home through the apartment’s damaged door.
As the device moves through the living room and the kitchen, the camera on it rotates to provide a full view of the room.
Once the drone enters a nearby hallway, Rhynes pokes his head out of another room before emerging with his hands up and walking out of the apartment as ordered.
The 30-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murdering actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd who was best known for his appearance in Spike Lee movies.
Mr. Byrd was reportedly shot in the back multiple times. He was found dead near his home at around 1.45 in the morning on October 3.
As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, investigators believe that Byrd was on his way home from a local store when Rhynes approached him with his vehicle and shot him multiple times after exiting his car.
A motive for the shooting has not been disclosed as of this writing. It is also not clear what kind of, if any, relationship the shooter and the victim had.
