One Polish artist decided to bring some colors into subject’s life by launching a colorful project that would give a splash of color to an otherwise plain background.
Bored Panda has contacted the artist for full information. “ I am an art student of the third year of a bachelor’s degree at Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź,” Dominika Cebula introduced herself. “My main hobby is art but I also like to surround myself with house plants as I feel better around nature.”
When asked about her inspiration to create this project, Dominika revealed that she has many sources to inspire, including the city she lives in.point 238 |
“Łódź seems to be very grey and sad at first sight but it’s also very unique,” the artist explained.point 91 | “It’s a very pro artistic city and a lot of things happen here, lots of street art and festivals.point 174 | ”point 177 | 1
Instead of putting brochures or advertisements, the young artist decided to do something unique and decorate a local tram stop with a variety of dried flowers. From roses to ferns, Cebula took hundreds of dried plants and covered them in blocks of glass that were then put up at a tram stop at Dabrowskiego Square in Łódź.
“I felt inspired by a sentimental meaning of giving flowers to someone, the meaning of flowers in our culture and their presence at all the important moments in our lives,” Dominika explained about the inspiration behind this project. “Also, I feel modern cities lack nature. I’d like to introduce more colors and flowers because people feel calmer around nature,” she elaborated.
She gathered the materials and deals with the city officials, and her entire project took around a year in total. “The hardest thing about it was official reconciliations with offices,” the artist voiced her challenges. “Also, I didn’t have a lot of experience with resin earlier. Drying flowers took a lot of time.”
This colorful project is titled “Nostalgia”, the flowers used for the project are preserved with epoxy resin to increase their longevity.
When asked about people’s reactions, Dominika revealed that she was happy people were positive about it. “They tend to take photos of the installation and I heard a lot of compliments,” she explained.
Dominika stresses that she owes the project’s success to competition called ”Przecieki Sztuki” (eng. “Leaks of Art”). “The curator is Michał Bieżyński, he solved all the problems during the work and he is the best organizer I’ve met,” the artist elaborated. “The second person I’d like to mention is my painting teacher Ola Ignasiak who encourages the students to make street art and to try new things in art,” she thanked her mentors.
