While the California-based couple from San Diego share everything with each other and hold no secrets, they admitted that monogamy doesn’t fit their lifestyle because it’s “too constrictive.”

“A monogamous relationship can sometimes feel like I’m taking my love and shining it like a flashlight on one person,” Ryan, who has another girlfriend, said in an interview.

“In a sexually fluid relationship, your love is like a sun and it radiates in all directions.”

As the couple explained, they met on a dating app called MeetMindful which was designed to bring together open-minded people like Darrien and Ryan.

“I joined the app because I wanted to meet people who were into the conscious lifestyle and aware of what they ate, how they felt and the choices they were making,” Darrien admitted.

“The app makes you date mindfully. You are only given 10 matches a day so it’s not about going through really fast, swipe, swipe, swipe.”

According to the 23-year-old, she originally installed the app to try and find women to date. However, Darrien was caught off guard as she came across Ryan’s profile.

“On our first night together, I told him that I had just got out of a relationship with a couple and that I didn’t want to limit myself to a relationship with just one person,” she added.

“Love is limitless and we don’t have to put a lock on love. He told me that he was also fluid and he had an attraction to both sexes.”

After just two months of dating, the couple chose to get married in a spiritual ceremony rather than a legally binding one.

“We decided on a spiritual marriage instead of a legal marriage because we didn’t want the government to define our love. You can’t define love with paper or words,” Darrien explained.
