Among the key requirements being looked for is experience in cooking chicken sandwiches and, most notably, availability on Sundays.

An ad that ran in the Boston Globe read: “Chicken Sandwich Professionals Wanted”

In a statement, a Popeyes spokesperson said: “With the hype around the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, many restaurants have experienced an increase in sandwich orders, especially on Sundays. The company is seeking to hire more employees to staff its restaurants on Sundays to help meet such demand.”

The spokesperson added: “Job requirement highlights include people who have previous experience cooking chicken sandwiches for other restaurants the other six days of the week.” This was a not-so-subtle dig at Chick-fil-A.

Things started heating up between Popeyes and Chick-fil-A in August when Popeyes introduced a chicken sandwich to its menu thus challenging Chick-fil-A’s traditional dominance in this category. A Twitter spat between the two chains ensued which ironically helped Popeyes’ new product go viral, selling out nationally after two weeks.

When Popeyes brought back its chicken sandwich, they did so on a Sunday, November 3, a ploy that many saw was directed at Chick-fil-A which is famously known to be closed on Sundays.

Popeyes even came up with a video that showed someone adding the words “Open Sunday” to a Popeyes sign beside a Chick-fil-A sign that read “Closed Sunday.”

People have started calling the feud between the two chains as the Chicken Sandwich Wars of 2019.

Speaking to Business Insider, Popeyes said: “Popeyes continues to be humbled by the love its guests have shown for The Chicken Sandwich. We decided to have fun with this by posting classified ads, alerting potential hires to some of our openings. And yes, they must have Sundays open.”
