But the sad truth is, we keep losing the beautiful places we love even when we know how to protect them. Below are seven famous spots that the world has lost only within five years.

#1 Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire, England

But in 2018, teens knocked down one of the balancing rocks in Brimham Rocks, breaking it into pieces.point 84 | Aside from ruining the treasure, they carved their names on the famous stones that appeared even before dinosaurs roamed the planet.point 196 | 1

#2 The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen, Denmark

It was in 1909 when the sculpture was created by Edvard Eriksen. The mermaid statue was decapitated twice, has been covered with graffiti and paints numerous times, and lost her arm.

#3 Notre-Dame de Paris, Paris, France

Notre-Dame de Paris served as a cultural, religious and educational center not only for France but the whole world. It survived wars, religious and political conflicts. However, the popular architecture suffered from a massive fire in April 2019. Investigators said that the fire started at the center of the roof of the cathedral and the fire may be due to a construction work.

#4 Lake Mackenzie, Tasmania, Australia

In 2016, Tasmania suffered bush fires which destroyed unique plants that have no chances to grow again. 20,000 hectares of wilderness were wiped out but many plants are now showing signs of recovery. Lake Mackenzie was also heavily affected by the blaze.

#5 Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA

#6 Temple of Bel, Palmyra, Syria

The Temple of Bel is one of the most important religious buildings from the 1st century AD.  It had over 1,000 columns, a necropolis with over 500 tombs, and a Roman aqueduct. But because of the 2015 war in Syria, the main temple was destroyed and only two columns were left standing amidst ruins.

#7 Legzira Beach, Sidi Ifni, Morocco

Bright Side

The beautiful archways on Legzira Beach have been one of the symbols of Morocco. But sadly, it collapsed in 2016. Some people blamed local authorities for what happened.
