A postman with a heart of gold has gone viral after it came to light that he dresses in funny costumes to cheer up self-isolated individuals during the coronavirus lockdown.
While the global pandemic has been affecting millions of workers around the world, Jon Matson from the UK refuses to let the situation ruin his high spirits.
On the contrary, he dresses up in fancy, and sometimes downright adorable, costumes to cheer up the people he delivers mail to.
“Everyone is uncertain at the moment and you are the only person outside of the family that they see, so why not give them something to smile about,” Mr. Matson said in an interview with Sunderland Echo.
“It’s really nice to see people come out to see me… seeing everybody helps me keep my spirits up too.”
While it may be difficult to put on a happy face while going to work during a lockdown, Matson knows that his actions are good for everyone involved.
Praising the man for stepping out of his way to entertain isolated people was a Boldons area local, Zoe Grant, who said:
“Jon is sending such a positive message to the residents that this virus is not all doom and gloom and even our key workers who are still out there doing their jobs to keep the nation running and saving lives can do it in good spirit and with a sense of pride and humor.”
As Grant expressed, she feels proud that Mr. Matson is her postman and “can’t wait to see his next costume.”
