A heartbroken family was left devastated after a 22-year-old pregnant mother died alongside her 2-year-old son, 7-month-old daughter, the father of the kids, and his brother in a crash.
22-year-old Kristy Monroe was killed instantly alongside the driver, Travon Nelson, also 22, their two young children, and the father’s brother when their vehicle was rear-ended in North St. Louis County.
Nelson was driving his ex-girlfriend’s car with his family when the vehicle swerved off the road and forced him to quickly turn back to the highway.
According to investigators at Missouri State Highway Patrols, Nelson went off the right side of the road and veered to the left side.
Before the driver had the chance to turn the SUV back, an oncoming truck crashed into the rear of the vehicle and rolled brutally along the road.
“It was the worst Mother’s Day of my life. What a way to spend it. I’m just at a loss for words. It hurts,” said Travon and Samuel’s mother Kennesa Thomson in an interview with Five On Your Side.
Yolanda Talley contacted emergency services after the incident and revealed relatives had been to the site ‘screaming and yelling and hurting.’
Family members told Five On Your Side that Travon was a loving father to his five children ranging in age form 7 months old to 5 years old.
“Oh, my God. I have been crying ever since,” Ms. Talley told KMOV4, mentioning the curvy road is filled with potholes and motorists always speed. “I heard the screams. I hear it every time somebody dies out here.”
Anton Meyer, one of the witnesses, told Five On Your Side: “Man, it was a horrible site. A lot of people tried to come and assist these people.”
The driver of the Nissan, 54-year-old Larry Boyd, was hospitalized with severe injuries.
