A pregnant mother has lashed out at an elderly couple on social media after they refused to move from the seats she reserved for her family in advance.
Amanda Mancino-Williams, who works as a writer, was traveling from Cheltenham to Nottingham when she came across a senior couple who took over the train seats she had reserved.
After the couple refused to move, her three kids were forced to squeeze over two seats whereas she was left standing.
When the mother confronted the couple, the simply told her that reservations “didn’t matter” before dismissing her request.
“If a mum with 3 kids and bags has 4 reserved seats for a long train journey, and you’re sitting in their seats on a full carriage, don’t tell them that their tickets don’t matter in a posh voice and then say you’re not moving and refuse to make eye contact.
Don’t be these people,” Amanda wrote on Twitter after the incident.
As she added, she eventually talked to the train conductor and explained her situation. Fortunately, she was taken seriously this time, and the staff promised to move her entire family in first-class due to the inconvenience caused by the elderly couple.
“A kind man offered me his seat. Spoke to conductor who was calm, lovely, and apologetic, said that instead of engaging with them that he was going to move us to an empty table in first class. I grabbed our bags and turned to the couple and said, with a smile, ‘enjoy your seats!’” the writer added in her post.
Speaking to The Sun, the 37-year-old mum said there was no point in having seat reservations if people aren’t willing to respect them.
“I was shocked and tired. Any mother who travels with bags and children knows how your mind is in a thousand places, so things like reserved seats are something you count on. They make your journey manageable. I’d booked a table so the children could do their schoolwork,” she claimed.
