22-year-old Jade Lewis and her unborn child were killed when their vehicle crashed into a pole in an accident ‘sparked by road rage.
’
Lewis, who was 38-week pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The saddening incident occurred on the 2400 block of West Esplanade Avenue.
Both the pregnant woman and another female driver had been driving when Lewis’ Chevrolet sedan suddenly swerved off the road and hit a pole, according to Kenner Police Department.
The other car, an SUV, lost control and hit another power pole at the intersection of West Esplanade Avenue and Lake Trail.
Police said that the female driver of the silver SUV has been treated at the scene of the accident. She has been rushed to a local hospital and charges against her are still pending.
A spokesperson said that Lewis’ unborn baby did not survive the crash. The incident is still being investigated and authorities are interviewing witnesses.
One internet user commented: “Tragic. However could have been avoided as she was playing chicken with a much larger vehicle speeding up and not letting her pass.”
Another wrote: “We just had a baby yesterday so I can’t even begin to imagine the pain that her family is enduring. Nothing but prayers for them.”
A third added: “I will never understand how someone could lose their temper so bad because of another driver that it results in the loss of life and property, not to mention putting pedestrians in danger, just breathe people….”
Someone else said: “How is it we care so much for the unborn in an accident situation such as this but don’t give a second thought about having an abortion no matter what stage? This is a contradiction and hypocrisy imo.”
