A man has been arrested for trying to murder his wife, who was three months pregnant, during their holiday trip in Thailand.
32-year-old Wang Nan miraculously survived the 34-meter (111-feet) fall in Pha Taem National Park on June 9. She sustained fractures in her arm, knees, collar bone, and left thigh. Fortunately, her baby also survived.
Wang first told police that she passed out before falling off the cliff but officers suspected foul play.
After further investigation, Wang shared the true story and accused her 33-year-old husband Yu Xiaodong, of pushing her off the cliff as he wanted her 100 million baht (£2.5 million).
According to the commander of the Khonh Chiam district police station, Pol Colonel Charnchai Innara, they found Xiaodong suspicious after seeing him standing far away from the scene while rescuers helped the woman.
Someone also overheard Wang asking her husband at the hospital: “Why did you do that to me?”
The woman then told cops that she couldn’t tell the true story before as her spouse would not leave her side while she was getting treatment.
He also threatened to end her life if she had informed officers what really happened, she claimed.
Officer Charnchai said that the woman and her unborn baby miraculously survived after her fall was stopped by trees. A tourist saw her lying wounded on a trail.
Yu has been arrested at the Sapphasitthiprasong Hospital in Muang district when he went to the hospital to visit his wife.
All of the pair’s assets belonged to the wife and Yu came from a poor family. The debt-ridden husband asked Wang to help him repay his debts but she said she would only pay half.
