A priest has gone viral after using a plastic water gun to baptize a baby while social distancing and taking precautions to stop the spreading of the novel coronavirus amid the pandemic.

The funny moment occurred at an unidentified Catholic church believed to be located somewhere in the United States.

As seen in the photo that has been making rounds on the internet, the priest is pointing a toy gun loaded with holy water at the baby that’s about to get baptized over distance.

While some viewers have pointed out that the baptism looks bizarre, others have applauded the priest for coming up with a method to baptize the young ones while maintaining distance.

Previously, in March, a similar scene took place at the home of Minnesota-based Mary and Kyle Nielsen who invited their pastor home in hopes of getting their 2-month-old child baptized.

During that baptism, the pastor, too, arrived armed with a plastic water gun to squirt the holy water across the room from a safe distance.

“My brother had made the comment – with social distancing – the six feet – was the pastor going to use a water hose?” Mary said in an interview with KTTC.

“When baptism day came, we did the real thing first of course, and then afterwards we made sure to do the picture of the pastor holding a water gun and my husband just held Wesley out there and made sure we got a good photo op of that.”

With the pandemic threatening lives around the world, another priest was also spotted wielding a loaded water gun to bless the food of worshippers during the Easter holidays.

As Detroit-based Father Tim Pelc expressed after his clever solution went viral, he consulted with a doctor who confirmed it was safe to use a water gun as an alternative to the usual method of blessing.
