Prince Charles took a photo with Greta Thunberg after flying 16,000 miles in 11 days using private jet flights and a helicopter, according to Daily Mail.
On his trip to the World Economic Forum, he met teen activist Greta Thunberg and went to the Swiss resort using an electric Jaguar vehicle.
It was then revealed that before his appearance, Prince Charles took three flights on private jets and one using a helicopter.
He then took a fourth jet to Israel after his speech, during which he lectured world leaders to take “bold and imaginative action” on the environment.
Five ‘empty-leg’ flights were required to get the Prince – the helicopter and jet travel totaled over 16,000 miles in eleven days at an estimated cost to taxpayers of £280,000.
A Clarence House spokesperson said: “Global travel is an inescapable part of the Prince’s role as a senior member of the Royal Family representing the UK overseas.
“When he travels he does so at the request of the British Government. He does not choose the destinations any more than he chooses the means by which the journeys are undertaken.”
Muna Suleiman of Friends of the Earth said: “Climate targets can’t be met without cutting pollution from aviation emissions, and private jets are a particularly wasteful way to travel.”
However, a Royal source said: “The Prince has been campaigning against the dangers of global warming for 50 years.
“As soon as there is a more efficient way of travelling, bearing in mind all the factors involved, he’ll be the first to adopt them.”
One internet user commented: “A small Jet uses less fuel than a large 300 passenger one, because the size and weight is much lower. Do you expect him to go there in a double decker bus?”
Another wrote: “Fly around the world in a private jet or fight climate change. You can’t do both and expect anyone to take you seriously.”
A third added: “No problem – the only person talking sense about climate change at Davos was (surprisingly) Trump. It’s time that climate scientists stopped thinking that consensus is what matters and instead realise that if the theories that their models give don’t accurately reflect reality then those theories are wrong.”
