In an uncommon public conversation about Princess Diana, the Duke of Cambridge has revealed how his son Prince George shares his grandmother’s passion for dancing.
According to William, the 5-year-old little prince is taking after Princess Diana. He revealed so during his chat with 14-year-old Junior of BBC Radio 1 Teen Heroes.
Junior, who is a freestyle dance champion in the UK, has launched the #BoysCanDance campaign after getting bullied because of his dancing abilities to the point he had to move to a new school and home.
“George is doing dancing as well, he loves it. And it’s kind of… my mother always used to dance, she loved dancing,” Prince William expressed while chatting with the 2018 Teen Hero.
“And if it’s something you love, you do what you love. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Keep at it.”
Prince George, who is a fan of dancing, takes 35-minute ballet lessons at his school, Thomas’s Battersea, every week. Additionally, Princess Charlotte is also following Diana’s footsteps by practicing ballet.
During the 2017 Kensington Palace 20th death anniversary of Diana, Kate Middleton confirmed Charlotte’s passion for dancing saying “she absolutely loves it.”
Princess Diana, who wanted to become a dancer as a child, struck up a friendship with Wayne Sleep, a famous dancer and choreographer.
While she was taking private lessons, the princess decided to perform at the Royal Opera House in 1985 and surprise Prince Charles as well as her friends and supporters with her performance.
“It was her idea to dance with me,” Wayne recalled. “She took to dancing like a duck to water, she was such a natural. I couldn’t believe how good she was, she was a wow.”
“We had eight curtain calls and she wanted to do it again but I said, ‘No, it’s best to leave them wanting more. Now bow to the royal box’. She said, ‘I am not bowing to him: he’s my hubby.’
“That’s how we were, silly banter, fun and giggly. She knew whatever she said to me would go no further,” he added.
