Prince Harry’s new job title has sparked a funny reaction on social media after it came to light that the title is a slang word for penis in another language.
The Duke of Sussex is in for some inevitable mockery after becoming the CHIMPO of BetterUp, a US company that focuses on mental health through “personalized coaching, content, and care designed to transform lives and careers” according to their website.
As a humanitarian and mental health activist, Prince Harry recently joined BetterUp executives as the company’s Chief Impact Officer, also known as CHIMPO.
Though nothing looks wrong with the abbreviation at first sight, Japanese news outlets were quick to take the opportunity to have a good laugh as they explained that ‘chimpo’ is slang for ‘penis’ in Japanese.
“Imagine if he came to Japan and introduced himself as a ‘chimpo’ to officials? I’d love to see their faces!” one person joked.
“It doesn’t matter what age you are, the word ‘chimpo’ always raises a smile,” another one said.
As it appears, it might be best if Harry continues introducing himself by stating his Royal title, the Duke of Sussex, rather than CHIMPO – at least when he travels to Japan!
All jokes aside, the 36-year-old CHIMPO told the Wall Street Journal that he joined the mental health start-up to “create impact in people’s lives.”
In his statement on the company’s website, Harry added:
“As BetterUp’s first Chief Impact Officer, my goal is to lift up critical dialogues around mental health, build supportive and compassionate communities, and foster an environment for honest and vulnerable conversations. And my hope is to help people develop their inner strength, resilience, and confidence.”
