The Duke of Edinburgh is ‘very, very disappointed’ by Meghan Markle’s failure to support her husband and the monarchy, a royal biographer claimed.
Prince Philip, 99, gave up his career to support the Queen when she ascended the throne, and he was left ‘irritated’ when Meghan did not follow his example, Ingrid Steward said.
The royal expert told Sky News that Prince Philip could not understand why the Duchess of Sussex did not do the same thing he did when she tied the knot with Prince Harry in 2018.
Ms. Steward said: “I think he’s very, very disappointed because I think he feels he gave up his naval career in order to stand by the Queen and help the monarchy.
“And why can’t Meghan just give up her acting career, support her husband and support the monarchy?
“As he used to say to Diana, this is not a popularity contest, this is all of us working together.”
She added: “He just cannot understand why she couldn’t support Harry and help him rather than wanting to have her voice.”
The royal expert said the Duke of Edinburgh does not want to be involved since Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties earlier this year.
“Of course, it irritates him hugely. And when they had the Sandringham Summit, Prince Philip was seen leaving the house very swiftly before they all arrived,” Ms. Steward said.
“He simply doesn’t want to get involved anymore.”
