Prince Charles shared how ‘thrilled’ he was that his father Prince Phillip finally had left the hospital after undergoing heart surgery.
The Duke of Edinburgh, 99, was initially admitted at King Edward VII’s Hospital for an infection. He later underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.
He was photographed exiting the hospital at around 10:30 am before heading to Windsor Castle.
Sources said that Philip was in “good spirits” when he returned to Windsor Castle and got reunited with the Queen.
Prince Charles also said that he was ‘thrilled’ that his father was finally out of the hospital, saying: “I am thrilled about it.”
When questioned if he had already talked to the Duke of Edinburgh, Charles said: “Oh yes, I have spoken to him several times.”
A spokesperson for the Buckingham Palace also issued a statement that reads: “The Duke of Edinburgh has today been discharged from King Edward VII’s Hospital and has returned to Windsor Castle, following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition.
“His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and everyone who has sent their good wishes.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: “Fantastic news that the Duke of Edinburgh has been discharged from hospital and has returned to Windsor Castle.
“The soubriquet, the Iron Duke, surely applies and everyone will send him good wishes. We look forward to commemorating his centenary on June 10.”
Philip will have a lot to catch up on with the Queen after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex accused a member of the Royal Family of racism and claimed that Meghan did not receive any support when she struggled with suicidal thoughts.
