Prince Harry, 36, has reflected on his mother’s death and the pain it has brought him to be who he is today.
In a book for children who have been distraught with their parents who have passed away during the pandemic, he sends his condolences and experience to empathize with the children whose parents are health workers.
Currently, The Duke of Sussex has been living with his wife, Meghan Markle, in California. The book he published touches on Princess Diana’s death, 1997, and was only 12 years old when she passed away. According to The Times, he states, Although it left ‘a huge hole inside of me,’ it was filled with ‘love and support’ over time.
The book touches upon a young person’s mother who has died working on the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Harry states, “If you are reading this book, it’s because you’ve lost your parent or a loved one, and while I wish I was able to hug you right now, I hope this story is able to provide you comfort in knowing that you’re not alone,’
He adds on, “When I was a young boy I lost my mum. At the time I didn’t want to believe it or accept it, and it left a huge hole inside of me.”
Harry continued, writing that even though a lost loved one might be gone forever, they are ‘always with you and you can hold on to them forever’.
Signing off, he “knows how you feel, and I want to assure you that over time that hole will be filled with so much love and support. You may feel alone, you may feel sad, you may feel angry, you may feel bad. This feeling will pass. And I will make a promise to you – you will feel better and stronger once you are ready to talk about how it makes you feel.”
Author Chris Connaughton and illustrator Fay Troote’s book will become a part of the National Day of Reflection, a Government initiative to mark the anniversary of when the lockdown first started.
The book continues to promote three child bereavement charities: Simon Says, Winston’s Wish and Child bereavement UK, and Prince William is the patron of these charities.
Royal editor Russell Myers adds his input, that twins Prince Harry and William will have a ‘monumental period,’ “William is still committed, as is Harry, to get together.. this would see them coming together for the greater good and I’m sure everyone will be delighted if that happens,”
