Japan’s Princess Mako got lost on her way home as she got her first taste of life as a commoner after giving up her royal title to be with her husband, Kei Komuro.
The former royal was spotted in Bed, Bath & Beyond buying some essentials for their new home in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City.
Photos from Daily Mail show the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito wearing a long forest green coat, blue jeans, and blacktop.
The 30-year-old, who now goes by Mako Komuro, spent about an hour and a half shopping for paper towels, bath towels, organizer baskets, coat hangers, and other essential items.
At one point, she appeared to be lost in the city and had to ask others for directions. She was seen walking back and forth on a street many times until she finally found her way back to their apartment where her husband was waiting at the entrance.
The building is close to famous New York City landmarks including Lincoln Center and Central Park.
According to the building’s website, one-bedroom flats cost $4,809 per month while two-bedroom apartments are available for $7,085 per month.
Mako and Kei Komuro got married in Tokyo in October even though many people in their native country did not support their relationship.
After registering their marriage in Tokyo, Komuro told reporters: “I love Mako. I want to live the only life I have with the person I love.”
Many other princesses have left the palace and married commoners but Mako is the first one to have gained a public outcry.
