A prison guard has been jailed for one year after it was discovered that she had been having an affair with one of the inmates.

26-year-old Emily Watson was caught and sentenced after performing sex acts on an inmate, John McGee, on Christmas day when the two were in his cell.

As Emily revealed when she appeared at Mold Crown Court, she began developing strong feelings for John who has been serving his 8-year-long sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

According to the reports, Emily would visit the inmate in his cell on several occasions. There, she would engage in oral and full sex with John. She also smuggled in an iPhone that the pair used for calls, virtual sex over FaceTime, and sending naked pictures to each other.

The affair came to light after Wrexham’s HMP Berwyn authorities found out that Watson was spending too much time with John.

Following their suspicions, the prison staff discovered the iPhone in John’s cell and found Emily’s contact, as well as dozens of explicit images and texts, on it.

“Everything about this case is so, so wrong,” Judge Niclas Parry said.

“One can only hope that the sentence of eight years imprisonment would have been some comfort to the family of Mr Bratin [McGee’s victim].

“Therefore it is difficult to imagine the feel of betrayal they must have felt at finding out that he was able to have free access to an iPhone in prison and conduct a sexual relationship from his prison cell.

“This quite reprehensible behavior was willingly entered into for nothing other than thrill-seeking and personal gratification, having been flattered.”

Watson was sentenced to 12 months in prison while McGee was sentenced to 12 months in jail running concurrently with his existing sentence.
