A private island, up for sale near the Shetland coast, will cost you just a bit more than a houseboat in London.
The island, which has an area of 63.75 acres, is situated in Valia Sound to the west of Shetland Islands, Scotland, and is listed for sale on the market for just $310,000.
Norway is nearer to the island than Scotland and the 63.75 acres of land are described as “a place of spectacular scenery and beauty with an abundance of wildlife.”
The island, called a “scenic and sheltered” spot, is just off the coast of Shetland mainland and can be accessed throughout the year.
There are two cottages on the islands that have been worn out because of disuse and neglect but planning permission has been granted to renovate them.
The island also has planning permission for the construction of a pier, storage shed, reception area, and agricultural establishments.
The island also has a two-acre loch and a traditional watermill.
To make the island energy-efficient and ecofriendly, the planning consent extends to the construction of a proper windmill, installation of solar panels, construction of septic tanks for sewage, and building of rainwater capturing systems with cottage and shed roofs.
To give you a real sense of how cheap the island is, there’s a converted barge up for sale in Canary Wharf that has a listing price of $250,000.
A houseboat with two bedrooms in Limehouse Basin near Canary Wharf is also up for sale and it will set you back $236,500.
And a two-bed villa in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, will cost you a little above $298,000.
If $310,000 is too much for you, there is an island available for rent that you can get for just $68 a night. You can bring as many as 25 of your friends together.
This island is known as The Enclave and is situated near Placencia, Belize.
It fulfills the very definition of a tropical island with turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and luxury accommodation. It even has a freshwater swimming pool if you don’t want to swim in the sea.
The island can be rented from $12,000 to $27,000 a week and must be rented by a single party at a time.
