Prof Hawking is one of the chief names when it comes to science and the geniuses born in the world.
The man who has great researches and theories under his name bid goodbye to the world last year.
The physicist was 76 years old when he died. He died as one of the most renowned men and leader in his field.
Now to respect his great work on the black hole and to honor the man, he is going to join an elite group that has very rare names on the list.
This is a group of genius men who appeared on coins as a gesture by the government to pay respect to them like Charles Darwin and Sir Isaac Newton.
The designer of the coin, Edwin Ellis said: “I wanted to fit a big black hole on the tiny coin and wish he was still here chortling at the thought.”
The designer further explained that her motive to indulge the black hole in the design was because she wanted to pay respect to the man and the way he “made difficult subjects accessible, engaging and relatable,” in the terms of a black hole.
Prof Hawking’s daughter and son Lucy and Tim visited the Royal Mint as they were invited to see the coin that was made in respect to their father and his theory.
She said, “It is a great privilege to be featured on a coin and I hope my father would be pleased to be alongside Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin as scientists who have made it on to money.”
In his book A Brief History Of Time, prof Hawking explained black holes and the book became a best seller.
In an interview, he once said that his discovery about the black hole is not completely black is going to be his greatest achievement.
The prof was just 22 years old when he was diagnosed with motor neuron diseases which is an extremely rare disease. His illness took away most of his abilities and he was bound in a wheelchair. He was largely unable to speak but managed to convey his words through a voice synthesizer.
