Two chemistry professors have shocked the world after they got arrested for cooking meth inside the lab of the university where they had been teaching.
Just like what happened in the popular TV series Breaking Bad, 45-year-old Terry Bateman and 40-year-old Allen Rowland were allegedly producing methamphetamine at Arkansas’ Henderson State University.
According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, the two men were arrested by the narcotics task force and charged with the manufacturing of the drug.
“Bateman and Rowland were the subject of an investigation originating with Henderson State University Chief of Police, Johnny Campbell,” the office announced.
The university lab where the professors worked at first came under investigation after it was closed due to foul, chemical odor.
After environmental health inspectors inspected the research facility and approved it for re-opening, the lab results were released and showed that there were traces of Benzyl chloride in the lab.
Benzyl chloride is a chemical typically used in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine, though it may also have other uses.
“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is a top priority, and we continue to cooperate with authorities,” the VP of marketing and communications, Tina V. Hall, confirmed after claiming that both professors have been put on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The spokesperson, however, refused to comment on whether or not the professors were believed to be cooking meth on the university’s premises.
Previously, one of the professors, Mr. Rowland, praised the show Breaking Bad in an interview and said it “was a wonderful recruiting tool.”
“I thought it was a great show. It was spot on and accurate when it came to the science, and, it has gotten a younger, newer generation interested in chemistry. I feel like it was a wonderful recruiting tool,” he expressed.
