In front of the home of the Amazon CEO, demonstrators, who took a part in “march on Jeff Bezos’ house,” placed a guillotine, a beheading device commonly used during the French Revolution.

Backing up the apparatus was a sign that read: “Support our poor communities, not our wealthy men.”

Bezos’ Washington DC estate is one of his several homes and is estimated to cover some 27,000 sq. ft. The CEO’s main residence is located in the Washington State near Amazon HQ.

While the event to march on the tech mogul’s house was well-advertised on social media, only several dozen protesters appeared to have made it to the estate on Sunday.

In the flyer used to promote the event, the demonstrators wrote:

“Amazon works directly with police to surveil us, stoking racist fears in the name of profit. Doubling down on their union busting and mistreatment of workers, Amazon fired and racially slandered labor organizer Chris Smalls. Join us to tell Jeff Bezos enough is enough!

“END THE ABUSE AND PROFITEERING. ABOLISH THE POLICE, THE PRISONS, AND AMAZON.”

Chris Smalls is a fired Amazon warehouse worker who allegedly got sacked after staging a walkout over lack of protective measures taken by Amazon during the pandemic.

The company, however, defended their actions saying Smalls got fired after “violating social distancing guidelines and putting the safety of others at risk.”

In the wake of civil unrest and protests against racial injustice in the country, Amazon has also expressed their support for the BLM movement.

“We believe Black Lives Matter. We stand in solidarity with our Black employees, customers, and partners, and are committed to helping build a country and a world where everyone can live with dignity and free from fear,” the company stated shortly after the death of George Floyd.
